Hi, I’m Michael Sommerville, a performing musician and recording artist: a classical concert pianist and performing jazz saxophonist with over 20 years of teaching experience. I completed the requirements for my Bachelor of Music at McGill University, studying performance and later focusing on music technology and composition, and I’ve performed in Montreal and Toronto. My debut electronic release, “Lunar”, reached #6 on Beatport’s Top 100.
I teach beginner to advanced piano (classical and popular), saxophone, acoustic and rock guitar, and music theory, musicianship and ear training, in my Beaches studio, in your home, or online. I also offer instruction in music technology, including production, recording, sound design, mixing, and mastering. Beginners welcome.
Piano and Saxophone Students are welcome to train for their Royal Conservatory of Music Practical Examinations, and all Students are welcome to train for their RCM exams in Music Theory and History. Students not wishing to go the RCM route are just as welcome: in my experience, Students often have the best results when they are having fun and learning the music they love.
